HOUSTON GUIDE: WHAT TO SEE, WHERE TO EAT, THINGS TO DO AND THINGS TO SKIP
Wondering how to spend a weekend in Houston? Well… I went there for the weekend and when they say Houston is big, believe them! From the food to rodeos, music ( Heyyyy Queen B!), museums, architecture, night life…. You name it! It offers a diverse scene to please every crowed. One weekend is not enough time to see everything this city has to offer but it’s a start. Definitely recommend to rent a car, as the distances are relatively far and it saved me time. Check out these recommendations to make the most out of your visit!
First stop…
1. Johnson Space Center – NASA
Did you know that NASA has several sites where they launch spaceships different to the ones where astronauts go for training? Well, the one in Houston is called The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center. This one is dedicated to training astronauts before they are sent to missions. As part of the attraction when you visit the Johnson Space Center you can geek out about space and science. This is great place for any age, you’ll get to experience the firsts aircraft’s that went to space, see real astronaut environment (toilets, food, suits…), rocks from outer space, among other cool activities that I don’t want to spoil for you. If you were wondering how to spend a weekend in Houston and what to do this is one of my top choices! You could easily spend the day!

2. Go Shopping at The Galleria
From window shopping to real shopping, The Galleria will bring you the latest trends. Beware: You’ll find these Bougie prices hilarious. Even if you are not going to be dropping top dollars, go for a bite and window shop in any of their 375 stores.
3. Eat a Bison burger at Bubba’s!
My first time trying Bison burger… When in Houston! Bubba’s Texas Burger Shack menu might not seem that strange for the average Texan but for me it was! It’s a different flavor than the regular beef, not bad. Great place to try it for your first time! Wished they had fries instead of chips.

4. Eat tacos at Torchy’s!
No weekend in Houston would be complete without a Taco fix! My cousin recommended this place and although is a chain, Torchy’s has an amazing variety of tacos. They have a flavor of the month option which you can’t miss when you visit. Their portions are big and prices are reasonable. Note: this is not your dollar taco joint. More upscale but portions make up for it. See pics for reference! Bonus tip: Some of their locations have a FULL BAR with happy hour! Win win!

5. Go back in time at the Kung Fu Saloon
As for night life, Kung Fu Saloon is one of my favorites. This is a vintage arcade bar that will throw it back to the good times. They offer happy hour specials, games and a good music.

6. Try Whataburger!
This is a MUST try when you are in the south, specially after a night out. We did a run on our way home, told the Uber driver to stop by and we even treated him. Order the fries! No pics but it was EPIC.
7. Spend the afternoon at the Kemah Boardwalk
Live music, drinks, food and an amusement park. All in one place! Perfect to spend an afternoon. They even have an hotel if you want to spend the night to enjoy the night life. Make sure to check them out!

8. Galveston Island: To Visit or Not to Visit?
This was the only disappointing part of my trip. I thought this would be a great place to go in the water and experience the beach town. But oh surprise! The water was not adequate to swim, look or even dip your toes. Yeah, you can enjoy a meal and walk around a bit but it’s an hour away from Houston, and if you are there for a limited time I would just skip.
This is not all that needs to be done when thinking on how to spend a weekend in Houston, but was all I was able to squeeze in 48hrs before I had to turn around and head back home.
