My first fete once I reached Trinidad Carnival 2019 was: DJ PRIVATE RYAN’S SOCA STARTER!
HEAR THE OFFICIAL PLAYLIST HERE!
I came straight from the airport, changed and headed over to what it would be the perfect warm up to start my 2019 Trinidad Carnival journey.
This fete was a 5 min walk from the house we were staying (near Ariapita Avenue). By the time I got there, the fete was in full effect and it was just waiting for me to wine the morning away!
Where is it? Location of Soca Starter:
In 2019 it was hosted in TZAR Rooftop bar. Location’s announced a few weeks before the fete. Can vary year to year.
Time:
The event flyer said that starts at 5am and ends up by 11am, but in 2019 it ended up closer to 1pm.
Cost:
In 2019, the cost of the party was USD$65. This one is on the cheaper end, due to not being an ALL inclusive fete.
What’s included?
This is a breakfast buffet fete BUT drinks aren’t included.
In the 2019 edition, the bar took credit cards and cash. This could change depending on the venue, so always carry cash to be on the safe side. And if you haven’t changed USD to TT’s they will exchange it for you (but you might not receive the greatest exchange rate).
As far as the food, they had these delicious doubles that I still dream about, an omelette station where you could customize your order, meat and fish pies freshly made.
What to wear to Soca Starter?
For the gals: I wore a romper, sandals, fanny pack and sunglasses. Other gals wore anything from maxi dresses, short dresses, shorts and tops, sandals, heals, tennis shoes.
For the gents: Men wore shorts, Bermudas, sleeveless shirts, t-shirts, dress shirts, pants, jeans with sneakers or dress shoes.
Relaxed dress code but cute wear. My suggestion is that whatever you decide to wear pair it up with something comfortable shoe wise. You won’t stop dancing!
What to expect at Soca Starter:
Great vibes, excellent food, a vast variety of drinks and wind for days!
An assortment of DJ’s will bring the best Soca music to the dance floor, being DJ Private Ryan the main attraction.
I had the chance to meet Ryan and he was the nicest guy ever. Pic for proof below 😉
I also got to meet DJ Ryan Sayeed, that was starting his birthday celebrations in that fete. Watch the next video and spot the ‘fro, lol.
Soca Starter was the only fete were drinks weren’t included. Therefore, always carry when partying. If you’d like to get my cute flask check this link.
The fanny pack came in handy, because I didn’t have to worry about my stuff, and it fit everything necessary: phone, keys, flask and lipstick.
Pro tip: Bring a hand fan, after all it’s the Caribbean and it’s always hot!
Will you include Soca Starter to your fete list?
