It’s been too long since I’ve traveled anywhere. If you are reading this in 2020 during the Pandemic, in the age of quarantine, social distancing, lock down all due to Covid-19, THEN YOU KNOW WE CAN’T GO NOWHERE.
We’ve been inside for the good part of almost ~4 months…. Cabin fever much? Yeap!
So while things start to reopen slowly, we still need to be cautious and do the responsible thing while trying to take advantage of the great weather.
My cousin and I (both cancer babies) decided to do a little responsible get together to celebrate our upcoming birthdays. That’s how we decided to do a social distancing Picnic!
Usually we take a trip together to celebrate our birthdays, but given the current pandemic this picnic will have to do until we can travel again (2023? 😢🤷♀️ ).

Here’s a list of my MUST HAVES to help you plan safely a picnic during a pandemic:
Masks, Gloves, Hand Sanitizer
By now, you should know the drill about COVID-19 aka Coronavirus but if not here is a friendly reminder: If you are out and about in public, WEAR A MASK. Stay 6 feet apart. Gloves are up to you, however don’t touch your face, wash your hands OFTEN, and if you can’t, then use Hand Sanitizer.
Pandemic Essentials:
- Gloves
- Mask
- Hand Sanitizer.
Pick a location with plenty of space to Social Distance!
Pick somewhere you are able to safely distance yourself from others while enjoying the scenery. In this occasion we decided to visit Hoboken’s Pier A Park. The NYC skyline, the proximity to restaurants and also the big lawn made easier to safely enjoy the beautiful day AND day drinking festivity! 😉
Food
Because we haven’t been eaten out at all since the lock down and I’m honestly tired of eating my own cooking, we decided to order takeout from House of ‘Que and at the same time support small restaurants during this time of crisis. You can always prep and bring something homemade if you don’t feel comfortable eating out.
Drinks
Staying hydrated during hot days is KEY! We brought cider, bubbly and a margarita mix along with seltzer water and regular water. Some bars were offering drinks to go but that adds up when you are out all day.
Cooler & Ice
Good to have to keep your drinks and food cool.
Napkins, Silverware, Wet Wipes
To avoid using your dirty hands and cleaning after playing or eating pack some Napkins, Silverware and Wet Wipes. Remember Covid LOVES dirty people.
Blankets or Towels to lay down
For as much as I love nature sitting on grass is itchy, not to mention that you could possibly sit where there’s ants or other friendly creatures. Grab a a blanket or a beach towel or even some bed sheets that you wont mind getting dirty.
Tent
Also good to have if there’s no shades in the area or you don’t want to be scorched by the sun.
Sunscreen
A MUST HAVE when leaving the house. Even if it’s cloudy, the sun don’t play!
Picnic Basket
If you want to be boogie like that and on brand, go for it. If not then a tote or a bagpack can be used to help you carry your essentials.
Pick a playlist and bring your Bluetooth Speaker
A lockdown picnic wouldn’t be complete without some MUSIC! Set the ambiance and have some of your favorite music as background noise. And if your jam comes on, bust a move!
Fan
Because it will get hot! Grab an electric or hand fan.
Bring some Games to play!
I brought this cute and fun card game UNO: MINIONS The Rise of Gru that has a special rule…. YOU NEED TO HOLD A KARATE POSE until everyone plays or you take +4!
Twister is a fun one too! Just don’t wear a dress or you’ll end up flashing the kids.
Also a volleyball, football, futbal, frisbee, kite, or any ball!
Clean after Yo self!
You head out, enjoyed your time and now PLEASE make sure you don’t leave any trash or mess behind so that the area stays preserved. Trash bags are good to collect any waste.
Take some pictures to create more memories!
Even during a Pandemic, make sure you don’t forget to live in the now and create some memories! Making the best out of this situation while still enjoying life responsibly.
Disclaimer:
The only way to prevent spreading the COVID-19 virus is to STAY HOME. Every time you leave your crib there’s a risk to contract/spread Covid-19 even if you don’t feel symptoms. If you don’t feel comfortable going out, you can always have an indoors picnic. Make the best of your backyard, patio, living room, even your room! If you would like to read more information on the coronavirus visit WHO or the CDC websites.
