10 BEST THINGS TO DO IN BRUSSELS BELGIUM

Have you ever visited a country for just 6hrs? Well, I did! On my first Eurotour, I had a short layover in Brussels, Belgium when I was from coming from Ibiza on my way to Amsterdam. With some time to spare as my flight got in early in the morning, I decided to make the most out of the situation and and spend the day exploring the beautiful city of Brussels. Needless to say, it wasn’t enough to appreciate the Belgium culture, however I was lucky that I was able to see so much in the little time I had before hoping on the bus to my next stop! Here are my recommendations of what you could possibly do with a little bit of time in the city of Brussels.

1. Take a free walking tour…

…or just walk everywhere!

The city of Brussels has facilitated a series of free walking tours that you can check out prior to your trip. Belgium in itself is a very walkable country. If the guided tours are not your thing just take a stroll Downtown Brussels and enjoy all the cultural experiences that this city has to offer.

2. The Grand Place – Grote Markt

The Grand Place is the central square of Brussels. Enjoy this monumental landmark that has been called an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

3. Go shopping to Les Galeries Royales Saint-Hubert

Walk around these galeries and check out the little shops, you’ll certainly find a thing or two. Not shopping? No problem! Simply grab a bite or people watch 😉

4. Drink the local Belgium beer.

Anywhere you go you can pretty much find the delicious pints of local beer but if you have time, make sure to catch one of the local beer tours. Just make sure not to drive afterwards 😉

5. Try Everything-Belgium-food!

In addition to the fantastic beer tasting, you can’t go wrong with Belgium food! From waffles to chocolates, to fries and pastries, Belgium food is rich in flavor and creativity. Whether you have a preference for savory or sweets, you will definitely enjoy the delicious food in this city.

6. Check out the Manneken Pis

Of course, your trip wouldn’t be complete if you don’t check out this famous little guy! People from all over gather to see him pissing, lol. If you happen to visit during a holiday, you most likely find him dressed up in the most quirky way.

7. Enjoy the street art…

…by visiting the Belgian Comic Strip Center!

8. Check out the wonderful Belgium Churches

Lastly, these are the places I didn’t get to visit on this occasion, but will definitely be on my list as soon as I get another chance to go!

9. The Atomium

10. Day trips to Bruges or Ghent.

Have you been to Brussels too? Or Belgium?

I hope this motivates you to put Brussels on your list if you haven’t been!

However if you’ve been… What are your must do in this city?

I love Brussels. It took a couple of days to really discover some cool places, other than the main sites. Thanks for sharing, it brought back some great memories.

Just walking around and spotting street art sounds like the perfect way to start the day, followed by fries, waffles and beer of, course.

Brussels looks amazing! I would definitely want to set out on foot to see the beauty of this city and then followed by beer. Oh yeah!

I went for a day a few years ago (cheap flight from the UK!) and did much the same as you. Some great suggestions here. You are right: it is a great city to just walk around. I loved sitting outside with a beer and just watching the people going by! I thinknthere is one of those hop on hop off bus tours you can do as well, butvwe just chose to walk.

That waffle looks delicious and would definitely set you up for a walking tour! I have only ever passed through Brussels on the Eurostar o I must take the time to visit properly and take in those sights (especially that gorgeous little mannequin pis).

I love walking in a city. It is simply the best way to get a feel for the town. I love that there are so many free walking tours around the city. I would enjoy seeing the churches, the street art, and the architecture in Brussels. And, of course, I would have to indulge in some Belgian waffles and chocolate,

Brussels is such a quaint city. We loved it when we visited several years ago. We also had a walking tour to explore both the touristy spots and the hidden gems. Our favourite places are the one market where you can eat fresh raw fish, and oysters outside, and the Pêle-Mêle second hand bookstore where we stayed for hours! Did you also get to a chance to go there?

I haven’t visited Brussels yet, but I’d love to go. It’s giving me a mixed vibe of Prague and Vienna and I adored both of those destinations

I would be heading straight for the food. All. The. Food. Chocolate and waffles at the top of the list! Then I would want to see the street art and then all the churches. I haven’t made it to Belgium yet. Last summer I was supposed to go on a day trip to Bruges from Paris but the tour company messed that up. I will get there!

This really makes me want to revisit Brussels! Based on your suggestions, the first thing I’d do is take one of those free walking tours. I’d also travel to Ghent because I fell in love with it before and didn’t have enough time.
